What Bob Johnson's apology to Obama should have said

CNN is reporting that prominent Hillary Clinton supporter Robert Johnson, founder of BET, is apologizing for remarks he made about Barack Obama that were widely understood to refer to Obama's youthful drug use. As an African American voter, parent and cable viewer with some background in PR, I thought his letter needed some punching up. I've reproduced it below, with my comments and suggestions in brackets:

"Dear Barack" [I suppose since you are a billionaire, you figure it's okay to call Sen. Obama by his first name, but it doesn't sit all that well after you just called him out of his name and all]

"I'm writing to apologize to you and your family personally for the un-called-for comments I made at a recent Clinton event. In my zeal to support Senator Clinton, I made some very inappropriate remarks for which I am truly sorry.[Since you're going for the sincerity tack here, do you think you might want to add a 'my bad' for the lame excuse you tried to peddle when the news first broke.] I hope that you will accept this apology [Maybe you want to acknowledge that you have no business trying to tell African Americans anything since you made your billion dollars peddling filth about black people that set us back 100 years.] Good luck on the campaign trail. [Insert: After all, I've already done my dirty work.]"

Warm regards,

Bob Johnson"

Beautifully done. I still want to see a debate cage-match (meaning no one can leave until all issues are addressed) between "Bob" and Aaron McGruder. I'd even pony up for pay-per-view.

Thanks, Belinda! That's a funny idea -- I say we get Uncle Ruckus to referee!

Well done, my sister. I am laughing my tail off.

Great job at keepin' it real.

Much Peace,

Good letter. The fact that Bobcat had to insult Obama to prove a point is crazy. Obama has put the Clinton's in a space that they are not used to and they can't handle it. With her win in Nevada today, I'm sure that she is confident about her chances. However, I look at everyone in their camp differently now.

Thanks, Dave. You're right that the Clinton camp has been sullied by statements such as Johnson's and Bill Shaheen's (the former NH campaign chair who also brought up Obama's youthful drug use.

And on her Nevada win, I don't think she can afford to get too comfortable. According to what I've been reading Obama actually winds up with more delegates.
