Now that a second medical examiner has ruled that a teenager who died in a Florida boot camp in January was suffocated by guards, an attorney for one of the guards says that he expects his client will be charged, according to a news report. Martin Lee Anderson, 14, died Jan. 6 at a Florida boot camp after being beaten by several guards while a nurse stood by and watched.
No charges have been filed in Anderson's death to date, but Gov. Jeb Bush promised his support to prosecutors investigating the case.
A pathologist who observed the second autopsy on behalf of Anderson's family told reporters in March that he believed Anderson had been suffocated by the guards.
State Attorney General Charlie Crist said that the doctor who performed the first autopsy should "probably be suspended pending further review." That doctor, Dr. Charles Siebert, the Bay County Medical Examiner, said in January that Anderson's death was the result of complications of sickle-cell trait.
The boot camp where Anderson was killed was shut down, as were similar facilities across the state. Florida legislators recently agreed to replace the facilities with new programs emphasizing education and counseling.
Anderson's parents are expected to hold a press conference this evening.

A nurse? A nurse stood by and watched? Truly this made me weep. A nurse stood by and let grown men beat a child to death? I can't stand it.
I hope that he/she is prosecuted as well.
AS I WATCH THE VIDEO IF THE BEATING OF THIS CHILD I CAN TRUELY FEEL THE MOTHER'S PAIN.MY SON TOO WAS INCARCERATED AS A 1ST OFFENDER DRUG CHARGE. HE WAS TREATED LIKE AN ANIMAL.EVERY WEEKEND/HOLIDAY I WAS TREATED WITH MUCH DISRESPECT ALSO.I HAVE NO DOUBT MARTIN WAS MURDERED.
Oh he was definetly beaten to death. Florida is one of the worst places in the US, when it comes to these Juvenile Lockups.
Just visit www.justice4kids.org and read all the horror stories and view the comments by many of the low life staff that are in charge of our kids in this State.
Its appauling, and everyone of the kids in custody, have had their civil rights violated! Everyone of them!!! Parents, of these kids, you too have had your Parental Rights Violated as well.
Think about it!
I hope to see a major change in the care and treatment of the DJJ system in Florida.
testimony from the gaurds is the most pathetic excuses for their brutal and violent actions, and of course i wont be surprised if they get off easy because they were "law enforcement". So just because you enforce the law, it doesn't apply to you? law enforcement in the US is a hypocrisy.
